First Oriental Rugs opened in Danvers, Massachusetts in 1996 as a way to bring the beauty and magic of rugs to a larger audience, and by 1999 was voted the #1 Rug Store on the North Shore. We offer an extensive range of distinctive pieces and carry rug sizes for foyers, stairs and hallways, living rooms, dining rooms...even ballrooms!

We maintain our own looms in Iran, India, and Egypt that allows us to produce the unique and value-oriented rugs that we want and may not be able to find in the marketplace. Having our own looms allows us to custom-design and weave rugs to create your dreams too.

First Oriental Rugs attracts rug collectors, interior designers and individuals from the entire Northeast. We hear again and again that our store and rugs are outstanding compared to others. We offer a pleasant, low-pressure, learning atmosphere that sets us apart.

Cynthia First has a background in Studio Arts and Art History. She worked in Antique furniture and accessories for 12 years and maintained a store west of Boston. The antique rugs she came across in her work captivated her, and following this passion, she embarked on a serious study of carpets in N.Y.C and with a Persian family, which she continues to this day.

Cynthia has developed a rug environment that encourages exploration. Many private clients and Interior Designers have developed an unexpected and ongoing interest in rugs ignited at First Oriental Rugs and continue to return.
